Though not to be confused with Chuck Berry or James Brown, Chuck Brown holds a special place in popular music. In the '70s, the Washington-area artist more or less single-handedly invented go-go, a sect of funk with Latin roots and a whole lot of call-and-response. Ever the life of the party — even in his mid-'70s — Brown is again on the road supporting his latest release, 2007's “We're About the Business.” Branching into hip-hop with the help of his rapper daughter KK, Brown has found even new ways to blend funky horns with killer beats. Fresh off the Hampton Jazz Festival, Brown headlines Fridays at Sunset on July 3 at 6 p.m. $20-$30. www.fridaysatsunset.com.
