Christopher O’Riley and Matt Haimovitz at the Modlin Center

Monday, Oct. 3

The title of pianist Christopher O’Riley and cellist Matt Haimovitz’s new two-disc album and tour, “Shuffle.Play.Listen,” has a dual function. It signals an atypical mix of music — Janácek, Martinu, Arcade Fire, Blond Redhead — and it functions as actual instructions for listeners unused to letting loose the gods of randomness. O’Riley, host of NPR’s music program “From the Top,” and Haimovitz, co-founder of Oxingale Records, are known for ignoring genre boundaries and stretching conventions. At their upcoming concert, they’ll break from classical tradition by programming the second half from stage. O’Riley and Haimovitz perform at the Modlin Center on Monday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. $18-$36. 289-8980.
