Never underestimate the need for a great writer, even if people read less nowadays. You'll always have a job in public relations.
“You're telling stories on behalf of your client,” says Christian Munson, a leader at CRT/tanaka, a public relations and marketing firm where he's entrusted with top five clients such as Longwood University and Amadeus. “Clarity is important.”
Munson also shares his communication gifts with the community. He's on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Richmond, and serves as a mentor for a “little” with whom he spends Friday lunches at Blackwell Elementary School.
An award-winning marketer, Munson has been able to raise the profile of Big Brothers through fundraising and recruiting new volunteers. He recognizes stories, such as the University of Richmond women's basketball site-based mentoring team, and gets them picked up nationally by journalists, spreading the word afar. Munson once covered the technology beat for the Washington Business Journal, so he knows both sides of the journalism business.
“The most important thing in my mind is that Christian exhibits humility in a profession often marked by just the opposite,” Michael Whitlock, executive vice president and corporate director at CRT/tanaka, writes in his nomination letter. “He is one of the really good guys.”
Who else wins a company service award worth $2,500 and uses it to go catch a Brewers game in his native Milwaukee? Solid dude, indeed.
