Carjackers in North Side foiled themselves

If a couple of North Side carjackers accost you don’t be surprised if they first ask, “Is that a manual or an automatic?” One pair of would-be thieves foiled themselves earlier this month last week by seizing a vehicle they couldn’t drive — one with a stick shift. Richmond Police Department spokeswoman Jen Reilly says the pair accosted a motorist at gunpoint in the 1700 block of Fairfield Avenue, demanding the victim’s money or car, a 1989 Ford Probe. “The victim jumped out,” Reilly adds.
