The RVA Gun Hole Saga Continues …

Developing: After being filled in, the Richmond Gun Hole has been excavated.

Update: As of Wednesday, Jan. 31 evening, someone had excavated the Gun Hole.

The Richmond Gun Hole was filled in as of Wednesday morning, a victim of its own fame.

Located on South Addison Street in the Fan, the Gun Hole went viral this past week after X user @brockomole tweeted a picture of it with the caption “What if we kissed at the Richmond gun hole” last Friday. The tweet had 1.9 million views as of Wednesday morning.

Style Weekly was the first media outlet to report on the Gun Hole, which has since been covered by WWBT12 and WRIC8.

At 8:16 a.m. this morning, X user @rhey_babey posted a photo showing city workers filling in the hole. At least one person had filed an official complaint with the city on Jan. 28 that a “vague ‘gun’ shaped impression in the sidewalk is attracting nuisance visitors and littering. Please repair.”

On Reddit, users expressed grief over the loss of the local landmark, which drew comparisons to the Chicago Rat Hole.

“It had been there for years and I loved it. My boys and I would see it every morning otw to daycare,” wrote Reddit user brickarttime. “I guess it got too much attention and the city didn’t want to be associated with a gun like the Chicago Rat sidewalk. Sad.”

Style has reached out to the city for comment.
