Bowling Shoes: Finally Considered Fashion

Here's another great reason to sip PBR at the lanes: tattooed models in bowling shoes. This Friday at the Plaza Bowl, the linoleum runway fills with fashion to raise money for Unitus, a nonprofit that helps impoverished women in developing countries.

Couture for a Cause is sponsored by Richmond-based online dress company Shabby Apple, Community Chest Booking and Promotions, and everyone's favorite local fashionistas, the girls at Rumors Boutique.

Models will sport 30 Shabby Apple dresses and eight men's looks courtesy of Rumors. Featuring musical performances by Wrenn Mangum and DJ Rayvon, the event has taken less time to plan than Sarah Palin's grandchild.

“We have been pedal to the metal nonstop planning this thing,” says Tiffany Cale, Community Chest co-owner. Since speaking with Natalie Oddenino, public relations manager at Shabby Apple, Cale and Oddenino put the word out, found models with that “Richmond look” and got dudes in the show. That's where Rumors co-owner MarshAc Wyche comes in.

“MarshAc immediately said she would love Rumors to be recognized as a male line,” Cale says, “so she offered to craft some looks.”

These looks will be ready to try on or purchase Friday, Nov. 21, at Plaza Bowl, 8-11 p.m. Admission is free but donations are accepted.
