The National already has seen some legendary moments. Remember when the Foo Fighters held the first big crowdfunded concert there? Or when a German documentary filmmaker filmed Willie Nelson playing onstage? Or when some girl screamed a sexual comment to one of the Hanson brothers? Never forget. With its mix of popular artists, tribute bands and nostalgia classics, the 1,500-capacity historic theater has helped put Richmond back on the map as a touring destination. Near Boulevard and Broad is the Broadberry, a long, narrow venue that draws more in the 400- to 500-person audience range. The Broadberry has scored memorable shows from the Swans and the Rev. Horton Heat to such local album release shows as Natalie Prass and Lucy Dacus. The Tin Pan is a more intimate listening room and restaurant venue that practically gives the entire audience a front-row seat. The immersive venue has had some great sellout shows featuring such performers as Iris Dement and NRBQ.
