Second Place: Thea Duskin of Ghostprint Gallery
Third Place: Katie Davis of Salvation Tattoo Gallery
Amy Black arrived in Richmond from Ohio in 1998, and has moved from administrative work at Tattoo Studio Alive Gallery to ownership of her shop in 2005. Her continued success and growing clientele has allowed her to continue pursuing her passion project: providing nipple and areola re-pigmentation for those who have undergone mastectomies. While this is the fourth year in a row that voters have selected her as Richmond’s best tattoo artist, she’s hesitant to represent the entire tattoo community. “There are so many different mindsets of tattooing in Richmond,” she says. “There are a lot of artists keeping it alive.” Among them is runner-up Thea Duskin, who’s been in the business for nearly 20 years and co-owns Ghostprint Gallery on West Broad Street, and Katie Davis, who works out of Salvation Tattoo Gallery in Oregon Hill.
