With its many locations in the region, the Y offers aquatic fun and education on many levels. There are indoor and outdoor pools, lap pools and kids’ pools. The idea is to teach youngsters the potentially life-saving skill of swimming and then build on it for the rest of their lives. Besides lessons and recreation, the group offers courses in CPR, lifeguard certification and scuba, where graduates who win their open water tags are able to rent gear and dive most anywhere in the world. For-profit ACAC has locations and pools in Short Pump and Midlothian off Robious Road. SwimRVA is run by the Collegiate School Aquatics Center in Chesterfield County and has three pools, including a lap pool and one for warm-water therapy.
