Doesn’t everybody love trivia? Don’t even get us started on Alex Trebek’s illness over at “Jeopardy.” At Castleburg Brewery and Taproom, it takes trivia seriously. You can knock back some award-winning brewskis while playing live trivia every Thursday night at 7 p.m. Hosted by Erin Barclay of Orange Cat trivia, teams of one to six compete for weekly prizes and league points to be awarded at the end of each quarter. They play four rounds with 10 questions each, and an intermission round.
And just what, pray tell, are the weekly prizes? They include $20-dollar gift cards to Castleburg for first place and $10 gift certificates for second place, as well as various tickets to Richmond events for best team name. Oh, and at the end of the quarter, the team with the most point gets $100 cash. “[Erin] doesn’t take shit from anybody,” says brewery founder and owner Karl Homburg. “She makes it a fun night, lot of back and forth.”
Homburg notes that it’s usually a packed house, with people starting to trickle in around 6:30 to 9 p.m. And you can also enjoy the beer selection, such as the new India pale ale You Killed My Father, Prepare to Die [from “Princess Bride”].
“We have a lot of malt-forward beers that don’t necessarily fit into the mold of IPA brewery,” he adds. “It can be an older demographic. There’s an indoor area, small patio, plenty of parking on weekends and great acoustics.” It has live music every Friday and Saturday.
