Second place: Bottom’s Up Pizza
Third place: Mary Angela’s Pizzeria
Remember when Belmont Pizzeria first opened, knocking our socks off with that potato pizza special? We didn’t know it then, but apparently that was the start of its citywide domination when it comes to pie. These days, you can get french fries or sliced potatoes on your pizza at this cozy Museum District spot that’s made believers out of more than just the neighborhood. Shockoe stalwart Bottom’s Up Pizza takes second place, probably because of its trademark thick crust, the one that takes 12 hours to make and fills you up for the next 12. With frequent lines out the door, Carytown’s Mary Angela’s Pizzeria is a standout, bolstered by natives who had their first pizza there back before pizza ovens became de rigueur in trendy restaurant kitchens.
