Your doctor probably doesn’t sing to you while you sit on your mom’s lap, but that is indeed what happens at Pediatric Associates of Richmond. “Depending on the age, I try to be playful and make them feel comfortable,” Dr. Sarah Turse says. “I try to keep my young patients in the parent’s lap. I tend to sing songs while I’m examining my patients. My most recent one is ‘Wheels on the Bus.’” She says the biggest challenge is helping parents whose children are going through their first illness — especially the flu. “We got through it,” Turse says. “I tell parents to try to keep children from drinking each other’s drinks, and stay home if you have a fever.”
