In-person care is, of course, important for women going through pregnancy or medical conditions, but a new online secure messaging system is helping Virginia Women’s Center staffers deliver better care, says Dr. Kay Stout, the center’s president. Questions don’t always occur to patients when they’re in the doctor’s office, says Stout, who has 25 years of experience. “When they actually have some time to put thought to something that’s going on, it may be 3 a.m.,” she says. They can send their concern or question directly, and patient care coordinators figure out whether a patient should come in immediately or wait a day or two. “The biggest point is treating each and every person as an individual and with the utmost respect,” Stout says.
