The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is one of the top 10 comprehensive art museums in the country. It’s been Richmond’s main-squeeze art museum since its opening in 1936. Going to the Science Museum of Virginia is a local tradition passed down from one generation to the next, says Courtney Moyer, director of communications and curiosity with the museum. And the options have only been getting better. There are fun shows such as “Boost,” an interactive health exhibit that lets you test your strength, and LightPlace for the youngest scientists among us. “Speed,” the museum’s most ambitious gallery ever, features a SR-71 Blackbird supersonic jet. Plus there’s the upgraded, state-of-the-art digital Dome Theater providing an immersive cinema experience unlike any other in town and the newly opened Dewey Gottwald Center, serving as an events venue in the fall and spring. Look for “Da Vinci Alive — the Experience” this summer.
