Second Place (tie): Sarah Bloom and Rachel DePompa of NBC-12, Greg McQuade of CBS-6, Amy Lacey of 8 News
Curt Autry is an Emmy-winning journalist and all-around hometown guy who knows how to stoke the fires on Facebook. And he’s also passionate about reporting on things that matter to him in the community. He’s says he’s grateful to NBC-12 management for giving him permission to be his full self. Most recently he reported on shelter animals that were running out of time, which resulted in several life-saving adoptions. “I have the freedom to do things that matter to me,” Autry says. “And I’ve been allowed to develop a substantial Facebook following in a manner that might make some TV managers cringe — but not this one.” A spectacular four-way tie for runners-up recognizes Autry’s NBC-12 colleagues Rachel DePompa, who is an investigative reporter, and Sarah Bloom, a breaking news center reporter and serves as an anchor for “NBC-12 News Today Sunday.” Voters also credit CBS-6’s Greg McQuade, who is also anchor and host of “Virginia This Morning,” and Amy Lacey of 8 News, who co-anchors the 5 and 5:30 broadcasts, for their reporting endeavors. Who knows where this leaves us. Perhaps we should solve this by dance-off?
