Rain or shine, Richmonders have loved flocking to the annual Richmond Folk Fest for a dozen years. It’s the biggest music festival in town. Another rising festival continues to expand: the Richmond Jazz Festival. Sponsored by Altria, Dominion and Virginia Tourism Corp., the jazz festival has emerged as a four-day blend of classic jazz, rock, R&B, big band and other genres in the lovely setting of Maymont, always held the second weekend in August. Its eighth year comes around Aug. 10-13, with the artist lineup announced May 25. “It is an eclectic mix,” says Jasmine Roberts, media consultant with Johnson Inc., which owns and produces the festival. “We’ve moved from two days to four days and we’re working on a week of activities leading up to the fest.” Expansion plans include national, international, regional and local artists.
