At Decor, general manager David Stein focuses on making custom furniture for his clients, including kitchen islands, built-in bookcases and even wet bars. “If you move, you’ll be able to take it with you,” he says, and the cost is typically lower than if a house contractor includes it in construction or renovation. Some customers still stick with formal dining room tables but pair them with multicolored chairs, Stein notes, and outdoor living rooms complete with umbrellas and sectional sofas are taking off in popularity. But mostly, people who visit Decor want something unique. “You walk in the store with a drawing, and we can do it for you,” Stein says.
