Second Place: The Richmond International Film Festival
Third Place: 48 Hour Film Project
There’s something delightful in hearing French being spoken all over the place in Carytown. For a second, it makes Richmond feel really cosmopolitan — for a second. Then somebody with a Confederate flag marches by. The most recent French Film Festival was the 24th annual in this popular tradition and this year we even got a big fluffy French dog actor on stage at the Byrd. The Richmond International Film Festival, founded and produced by Heather Waters, brings more than 120 international films to various theaters across Richmond, including industry panels, red carpet awards, and sessions with such actors and producers as Orlando Jones. The 48 Hour Film Festival is a national spin-off in which filmmakers compete to make the best short movie in 48 hours.
