You gotta have laughs in this world, and Richmond has a plethora of jokesters, intentional and inadvertent. Voters reward Coalition Comedy Theater, which celebrated five years of shows in the Arts District this year. It even provided the material and voice for a 7-foot tall Edgar Allan Poe puppet during TEDxRVA. It also debuted RVA’s only live, late-night talk show, RVA Tonight with Beau Cribbs, bringing in Sen. Tim Kaine as first guest. David Pijor with Coalition says the show consistently sells out the day tickets go on sale. This coming year, he says, the theater will throw first comedy festival, featuring acts from Chicago, New York, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Charleston, Greenville and Norfolk. The 2nd Best Comedy Fest is slated for June 18-20). Comedy Sportz teaches all levels of improv, and West End Comedy offers laughs to both family and mature audiences — not at the same time — at HatTheatre.
