Best Late-Night Dining

Galaxy Diner

3109 W Cary St

Second Place: 3rd Street Diner

Third Place (Tie): Bamboo Cafe and Joe’s Inn

Knock me up, Scotty! That’s not a kinky, drunken battle cry. It’s just one example of the fare you can score past midnight at Galaxy — fried pickles and ranch dressing with hardboiled egg and a scoop of ice cream on the side, if you were curious. Oreo cookie milkshakes, Frito pies and fried Twinkies? Check. Centrally located in Carytown, the diner has an out-of-this-world selection of delightfully greasy, off-the-wall fare. There’s also your basic grilled cheese and tots for the less adventurous. The late-night staff is remarkably patient with the slurry sidewinders that wander in after a night of revelry and everything is reasonably priced. Still jonesin’ for more booze? They have your back with a stocked bar as long as it’s before last call. If you’re opting for eats in the wee hours, 3rd Street Diner has your back with a door that never closes. And the beloved ’Boo, or Slamboo as some lovingly refer to it, is a surefire bet for tasty eats as well.
