Second Place: Estilo
Third Place (Tie): Ipanema Cafe and Fresca on Addison
The Daily truly cares about celiac and gluten-intolerant diners. Be forewarned, however — not everything on the menu is gluten-free, although many of the dishes that aren’t can be customized. Perfectly crispy fried oysters make diners who might not have had them in years weep with joy. And pizza, pasta or a fat Angus burger on a gluten-free bun levels the playing field when dining with those who can eat everything. Estilo’s menu used to be completely gluten-free, but with new co-owner and chef Owen Lane, also of the Magpie, a few dishes that aren’t have snuck onto the menu. Nonetheless, take heart. Most South American cuisine is naturally gluten-free. Owner Kendra Feather is gluten-intolerant, so many of the dishes at Ipanema are gluten-free or can become so if you ask the wait staff, and Fresca on Addison wants you to taste a little vegan cuisine before judging — and not upset your stomach in the process.
