Boka Tako Truck

Second Place: Goatocado

Third Place: Christopher’s RunAway Gourmay

Boka Tako Truck’s owner Patrick Harris has a keen eye for trend spotting. He saw what was happening in Los Angeles with the enormously successful Kogi BBQ food truck, which put Korean short ribs and kimchi into a taco, and decided to do his own version. It was the first proper food truck to arrive on the Richmond scene, with such menu items as shrimp-and-grits tacos and guajillo roasted pork. You can now find five Boka trucks roaming the city and two brick-and-mortar locations. Harris also organizes the summer’s food truck courts and recently brought every truck together from Richmond and elsewhere for the Food Truck Rodeo at Chesterfield Towne Center. Goatocado’s fresh, healthy and vegan food in a bowl has been known to trump a corn dog or burger at area events even for meat lovers. Christopher’s RunAway Gourmay doesn’t operate trucks — its downtown carts have been serving its tarragon chicken salad on a baguette from Jean Jacques Bakery for the past 30 years.
