Richmond has become a haven for food trucks and carts in recent years. Especially during the warmer months, when Richmonders flock to breweries, festivals and block parties every weekend (and many weeknights), it seems you can’t turn a corner without catching the wafting smells of some meals on wheels.

Curbside Creations has been around for seven years, serving up classic American street fare like po’boys (shrimp, catfish, oyster and gator), chicken tenders, burgers, Philly cheesesteaks and barbecue sandwiches. Sides include all things fried: french fries, of course, but also fried mac and cheese and fried pickles.

“I saw the craze of the wood trucks out on the West Coast,” says owner Billy Metzger. “Usually everything that goes on on the West Coast moves to the East Coast. We were right on the cusp of it, and it’s sort of taken off.”

Metzger says the culture around food trucks has evolved, and the industry is made up of part-timers who roll out on the weekends, and full-timers like himself.

“It’s a true business, just like a restaurant,” he says.

This spring and summer you’ll find Curbside Creations at events like Friday Cheers and the food truck court at Hardywood West Creek. The schedule is available under the “upcoming events” tab of the website, and the truck is available to cater your next private event.
