Second Place: James River Film Festival
Third Place: Richmond International Film Festival
The beloved French Film Festival recently staged its 22nd event, the culmination of Françoise and Peter Kirkpatrick’s dedication and commitment to French cinema. It turns Carytown into an intriguing little swath of Parisian boardwalk. The James River Film Festival, which just staged its 21st annual festival, features more experimental, avant-garde and indie fare, plus a host of fascinating directors and artists. This festival is finding its footing and forging ahead after co-founder and key mover-and-shaker James Parrish left for another project. Voters also recognize a newcomer: The Richmond International Film Festival, founded in 2011, casts a wide net, offering a weekend of international films, industry panels, musical performances and entertainment mixers at the Byrd.
