Second place: Deepa de Jour

Third place: Chris Chaos

The winner in this category, Deanna Danger, is Richmond’s own full-time burlesque performer who incidentally “eats, breathes, and bleeds burlesque — which coincidentally, looks a lot like just straight glitter,” she says. A life-long dancer, Danger is a performer, producer and instructor, having started the Boom Boom Basics Burlesque and Performing Arts Studio in January 2010. She now teaches weekly local classes and weekend workshops around the east coast. “Mainstreaming ‘the Art of the Tease’ has been an uphill battle in today’s society, but that is why I am known as the Warrior of Burlesque,” she says. “I fight to get past the misconceptions and taboos associated with the craft. … there is absolutely a show for everybody, every walk of life, every type of fan. My mother-in-law just saw me perform at the Byrd for the first time!” Rounding out our winners were the “delectable dish” Deepa de Jour, the producer of the Richmond Burlesque Revue, which holds a monthly show at Gallery5. De Jour is a veteran performer and half of the legendary stripping duet known as the Garter Snaps. Third place went to “boylesque” performer, Chris Chaos, also known as the Pinup Boy, who recently moved to New York City, where he is now working as a professional makeup artist. Good luck, Chris!
