Christine Greenberg was a wedding planner before opening Urban Set Bride with her mother Jennifer Haines. She saw a void in Richmond’s bridalwear scene, and took it upon herself to address it.

“A lot of my clients were frustrated that Richmond didn’t have a boutique experience that was accessible to people at a realistic price point,” Greenberg says. “Nor was there a boutique experience that promoted itself as LGBTQ friendly, or that had a respectful, stylish and diverse plus-size collection.”

Greenberg describes the shop as “unapologetically progressive” in its values, and she prides herself in providing a comfortable, welcoming space for any bride.

The shop operates on an appointment-only basis, and each bride can bring an entourage of as many as six to her 90-minute private shopping session. And unlike the horror stories you may see on reality TV shows about wedding dress shopping, the team at Urban Set Bride do everything in their power to make the experience fun and stress-free. Each bride gets full run of the store, which carries 80-some designer gowns at any given time, so she doesn’t have to worry about other shoppers. It’s in a residential area so parking is easy for everyone, and groups are welcome to bring champagne.

“It can be really overwhelming for the bride,” Greenberg says. “She might come in with a lot of anxieties about money, body type, sizes. We just try our best to make this as zen and comfortable as possible.”
