Benedict Arnold’s Raid at Chimborazo Medical Museum

Jan. 6

The British are coming, the British are coming! The public is invited to join the Richmond National Battlefield Park and St. John’s Church for a re-enactment featuring the capture of Richmond by British Brig. Gen. Benedict Arnold on Jan. 5, 1781. Re-enactors from as far away as New Hampshire and North Carolina will bring this event to life. From 9 a.m. to noon visitors can see British and American camps on the grounds of the Chimborazo Medical Museum, also in Church Hill. At 10 a.m., join National Park Service ranger Nathan Hall for a talk about how Chimborazo evolved from an 18th century battlefield to Civil War hospital to neighborhood, then at 10:30 a.m. hear Arnold describe his role. At 11 a.m., re-enactors will conduct a weapons demonstration on the Chimborazo Medical Museum grounds before marching to St. John’s Church for an afternoon of living history programs from 1 to 4 p.m. Yes, it’s a full day for history buffs.
