On the site of the RVA Street Art Festival, happening this weekend, Nico Cathcart works on her painting of a whale. She says she hasn’t named the piece, but that she was reading Carl Sagan and thinking about cosmic possibility.
The transformation of the shipping container with the deep hues against the gray gravel and muted sky drew me in, while Nico’s pink hair and the travel trailer in the backdrop create layers to keep the eye moving deeper into the image. The entire site in Manchester, south of the Mayo Bridge, is being transformed into a feast for mural lovers.
