When contemporary jazz artist Bee Boisseau first saw the television coverage of the July 20 mass shooting at an Aurora, Colo. movie theater, he was devastated. The keyboardist moved home to Richmond earlier this year after having lived in Aurora since 2005. He even met his wife, Tiffany, there, and their house was near the movie theater. To help the town recover, he planned a benefit concert dubbed “To Aurora, With Love.” Boisseau is headlining the show, along with fellow Richmond natives Jarrard Anthony, an R&B singer, and Beast Wellington’s Samantha Reed. Much of his set is being culled from his new album, “Off the Porch.” All proceeds are being donated to the New Venture Fund, a charity that is distributing donations to organizations supporting the families of victims. “I want to show Aurora my appreciation and let them know that I’m thinking about them,” Boisseau says. Bee Boisseau performs at the Canal Club on Thursday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. $5 minimum donation. swaghiveent.com.
