Nominated in more different Grammy categories than any other musician in the awards' longstanding history, ranging from country, pop, jazz, bluegrass, classical, folk, composition and arranging, songwriter BAcla Fleck often is seen as single-handedly altering the perception of what a banjo can be used for. Shedding the image of an instrument ingrained in mountain-man stereotypes the musical virtuoso has been involved in numerous recordings projects throughout the years. Following up his ambitious exhibition exploring the origins of the banjo with on-location recordings with native musicians from Uganda, Tanzania, Senegal, Mali, South Africa and Madagascar, Fleck's latest effort finds him teamed with cellist and bassist Edgar Meyer and Indian percussionist Zakir Hussain. Performing tracks off their collaborative record “The Melody of Rhythm: Triple Concerto & Music for Trio,” all three can seen at the Modlin Center for the Arts on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m. $8-$38. — Mike Hilleary
