Audra McDonald isn’t your average entertainer. The universally acclaimed actress and singer won her record-breaking sixth Tony Award for her show-stopping portrayal of Billie Holiday in the 2014 Broadway production of “Lady Day” at Emerson’s Bar and Grill. Add to that already impressive résumé two Grammy Awards and an Emmy nomination for her work as host of “Live from Lincoln Center,” and it becomes clear that she’s a once-in-a-lifetime type of talent. On Thursday, Oct. 1, McDonald comes to town for a one-night only performance of show tunes, popular standards and original pieces written especially to take advantage of her vocal abilities at the Carpenter Theatre at Richmond CenterStage. The show begins at 7:30 p.m. $11.50-$62. richmondcenterstage.com.
