In April, the Virginia Center for Architecture will mark its first anniversary of operations on Monument Avenue, and the exhibition “Landmarks of New York” will be in its galleries. The show, organized by Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel, chair of New York’s Historic Landmarks Preservation Center, includes 81 black-and-white photographs of such icons as the Brooklyn Bridge, the Guggenheim Museum and the “Unisphere” from the 1964 World’s Fair. The curator will lecture at the center on March 23 at 6:30 p.m. The exhibition continues through April 30.
From April 1-9, “Architecture Week” will be observed locally with a series of programs. Calder Loth, a Richmond-based architectural historian, will lead a walking tour of the Fan District’s Park Avenue on April 2. On April 7, the American Institute of Architects Richmond Chapter will conduct a tour of the restored Patrick Henry Building. The former state library and Supreme Court building is serving as temporary quarters for the Virginia General Assembly while the State Capitol is being overhauled and expanded.
