Another Factor in Circuit City's Downfall

The piece on the decline of market share of Richmond-based Circuit City was well-documented (“City in Ruin,” Cover Story, Nov. 26), however one important issue was neglected: The fact that in the early '90s Circuit City was sued concerning racial discrimination issues.

The case involved the NAACP and a firm  that included City Council member, now governor, Tim Kaine. Circuit City either settled or lost the case; either way this incident damaged its reputation within the socially minded shopper.

The way the public views a company can indeed make the company or as that clichAc goes, break the company. This topic has never been investigated in any publication other than the traditional black press.
