…And Their Patron Saint’s the “Where’s the Beef” Lady

Because our attention spans would not grow longer, the media kindly grew shorter to meet us. Emily Dickinson said something similar, but she never won an award for a Hummer commercial, like the one above. The poetry of brevity is explored as the Richmond Ad Club brings “The Art & Technique of the American Commercial” to the Byrd Theatre Thursday, Nov. 2, with samples of award-winning commercials in categories of humor, cinematography, animation and even low budget. Each tiny epic speaks the language of the ADHD generation, and because of their message, Nike will be around another year. The show kicks off with a happy hour at Double T’s at 5:30 p.m., followed by the screening at 7:15 p.m. Tickets are $5-$15. Call 915-1359 or visit www.richmondadclub.com. S
