Fado, the Portuguese form of music born in Lisbon in the 1820s, comes from the Latin word fatum. It’s also the origin of the English word fate, the perfect name for a music that embodies the sad beauty that sometimes defines the human experience. On Saturday and Sunday, March 21 and 22, Richmond group Fado Nosso and dance troupe Claves Unidos join forces for a theatrical production of Amália at the Dogtown Dance Theatre. The bittersweet tale of love and loss features original choreography by the collective of independent artists and dancers under the artistic direction of Kevin LaMarr Jones. It’s all set to the seductive, melancholic melodies played with knowing nuance by Brian Cruse, Ron Alig, James Beard and Melissa Sunderland.
