Alex Kvares Exhibition, “Naphthalene and Champagne” at the ADA Gallery

April 3 through April 25

Ukraine-born, Brooklyn-based artist Alex Kvares knows the importance of the little things. There’s a delicate and playful poignancy to his meticulously rendered realities that live between the nightmares of Hieronymus Bosch and the observational truths of Mad Magazine’s Sergio Aragonés. Even when depicting the grotesque, Kvares finds beauty. His finely worked illustrations burst with carefully considered color, line and use of space as if the fate of humanity rested on his ability to get his Grimms’ fairy tale-inspired visions to paper. His pieces draw the viewer in for closer inspections from an attention-getting distance. Enticing and obsessive, “Naphthalene and Champagne” opens Friday, April 3, from 7-9 p.m. at the ADA Gallery. Through April 25. adagallery.com.
