Austin Fitch has a serious Roy Lichtenstein obsession. The Richmond musician, painter and muralist draws much of his inspiration from the pop artist’s mixed-media representations, but he fuses Lichtenstein’s template with the controlled chaos of Jackson Pollock’s abstract expressionism and the graffiti art featured in Manfred Kirchheimer’s 1981 documentary, “Stations of the Elevated.” The results are his historically based, 21st-century paintings. Bold uses of line and color define his large and small patriotic portraits of real and fictional American heroes Alexander Hamilton, Harvey Milk, Captain America, Rocky Balboa and others. Sponsored by Absolut Vodka, the exhibit “Absolute Freedom” opens Friday, July 4, from 7-10 p.m. at Barcode. A reception will be followed by an Independence party with DJ Amy Alderman. Exhibit runs through July 31. barcoderva.com.
