The Score

+6 Richmond celebrates Mother’s Day with breakfasts in bed, Hallmark cards and bouquets of flowers. The next day we resumed our usual routine of breakfasts at WaWa, business cards and buckets of PBR.

-3 After his splashy hometown visit filmed for “American Idol,” Richmond contestant Rayvon Owen is knocked out of the competition, landing in fourth place. Which is at least higher than “American Idol” sits in the ratings.

+4 In the midst of marking its 165th anniversary, The Richmond Times-Dispatch names Paige Mudd as its first female editor. It’s not that executives didn’t welcome them in those early days at the daily — as long as they knew their way around the food, garden and society pages.

+5 Thousands of Richmond-area college students don caps and gowns for graduation weekend at Virginia Commonwealth University, the University of Richmond and Virginia Union University. As always, it’s one of the happiest and most thrilling moments in the lives of student-loan officers.

+1 The Science Museum of Virginia holds its first Science on Tap craft beer festival, serving up brews along with explanations of the chemistry that makes it all happen. E = MC Hammered.
