The Score

Posted on Tue, Mar 24, 2015 at 1:00 AM

+4 After suffering through a bitter winter, Richmonders welcome the first day of spring. Happiness blooms, love blossoms, a zest for life abounds. And the mayor throws the ceremonial lime wedge into his afternoon gimlet.

-5 The VCU Rams get knocked out of the NCAA tournament by Ohio State. Don’t be down, cause Mo Alie-Cox will be back — and he’s always ready for a rebound.

0 A contingent of local business and civic leaders make an idea-seeking expedition to Nashville for the Greater Richmond Chamber’s annual InterCity visit. Upon their return, they huddle in back rooms, developing a five-year plan for a public-private, regional honky-tonk bar.

+2 In a marathon weekend dance session, sweaty teenagers at Deep Run High School keep the groove going for 27 hours to raise more than $215,000 for local charities. Even their socks get donated — to the Henrico County Landfill.

+1 Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden gets into the beer game, planting 32 hop plants in partnership with Piedmont Hops and Center of the Universe Brewing. Let’s just hope those rabid raccoons are kept away from the alcohol. They’re angry enough as it is.
