The Score

A Democrat pep rally, webcamming eagles and RVA's Grammy connections.

Posted on Tue, Feb 14, 2012 at 3:27 PM

+1 Virginia Democrats gather in Richmond for their annual Jefferson-Jackson Dinner, a pep rally that spotlights key political figures — such as presumed U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine, who delivers a rousing keynote address. There wasn't a dry eyebrow in the house.

+4 The indie band Bon Iver, for which Richmond musician Reggie Pace plays, wins the Grammy for best new artist. Reggie wasn't in Los Angeles for the awards ceremony, so he sat back, relaxed and just watched from afar — much like Kanye West.

+2 Also at the Grammy Awards, the University of Richmond's resident ensemble, eighth blackbird, picks up a win for best small ensemble performance. The group's getting so big it's considering the use of capital letters.

-1 The Times-Dispatch announces the results of a contest to name the two eagles under surveillance on its webcam, to be hereby known as Virginia and James. Remember when Richmond wanted to be known as the Capital of Creativity?

+3 Richmond wins one of several new city badges offered through a contest by the social-media game FourSquare, in which users can earn the badge by completing certain tasks around town. In simpler times, this was referred to as Boy Scouts.
