+8 Miss Virginia Caressa Cameron — a broadcast journalism student at Virginia Commonwealth University — takes the crown in Las Vegas as the new Miss America. So many tears are shed onstage the audience mistakes it for Pink's high-flying sprinkler act at the Grammys.

+6 Speaking of the Grammys, though nominated, Lamb of God doesn't win, but Mechanicsville's Jason Mraz snags two of the trophies. As expected, even more female fans are lining up for his best male performance.

0 The Virginia Lottery starts selling tickets to the big Powerball game. Considering the other ideas on the table, the General Assembly considers going all-in to bail out the state's dismal budget. But then legislators can't agree on who will pick the numbers.

-2 With snow in the forecast, Richmonders begin their frantic shopping days in advance. The mayhem is intensified by the prospect that this is the last time they can buy rainbow cookies in bulk. *

-7 Richmond slogs through its second winter storm of the season, trudging through foot-deep snow and bracing for more messes forecast to arrive. Local TV meteorologists log enough on-air miles to exchange for a job in Hawaii.
