Speaking of the Civil War, the mayor pushes for City Council to give $45,000 to build the base of the Lincoln statue coming to Tredegar Iron Works. This is good news for local Confederate rabble-rousers, who were nearly running out of things to protest.

More students at Douglas S. Freeman High School test positive for tuberculosis, so health officials decide to test the entire student body. Unfortunately, state education officials deny a request to add the test results to the school's SOL scores.
