The Score

A weekly rating of the city zeitgeist.

-6 The new governor of Old Virginny, Bob McDonnell, is widely castigated for his mangled attempt to bring back Confederate History Month with no mention of the role of slavery in the Civil War. Or, as he likes to call it, the Era that Would Have Made My Term in Office Much Easier.

0 But then again, after initially defending his decision McDonnell does apologize, amending his proclamation on Confederate History Month to include the role of slavery in the Civil War. Well, the guy did say he was the jobs governor, after all.

-2 The New York Times gives mixed reviews to the Richmond Ballet's performance in the Big Apple, saying of one dance that the best part is the ballerina's white halter leotard. On the bright side, praise for the ballet costumer!

+5 With a weekend celebration of science fiction, fantasy and horror, RavenCon 2010 draws fans to the Holiday Inn Koger Center with workshops on comics, zombie makeup application and a promise that “The Gaming Room never closes! Ever!” That is, until your parents call you home for dinner.

-1 The Richmond Flying Squirrels' first game — an away match against the Bowie Baysox in Maryland — is suspended because of rain. Hey, you wouldn't want to play with wet nuts either.
