The Score

Posted on Tue, Oct 13, 2009 at 12:00 AM

+9 The Richmond Folk Festival draws massive crowds and musical entertainment from around the world. But things go horribly wrong when a Ricola cough drop shortage turns the yodelers against the throat-singers in a parking-lot brawl.

+6 Speaking of the world, the weekend also packs in the Festival of India and the Richmond Italian Street Festival. And that, ladies and gentleman, is how Richmond became the official birthplace of curried stromboli.

+4 The two candidates for governor meet in Richmond for another debate, the first that's been televised broadly across Virginia. Which leads to record ratings for “Monday Night Football” and “Family Guy” reruns.

-5 In Chesterfield, a woman is sentenced to a year in jail for animal cruelty, the T-D reports, after she allowed her home to be overrun with 50-plus cats facing horrific conditions, many so sick they had to be euthanized. The upside: Those Philadelphia Eagles have their eyes on her!

-2 Richmond counts down to the reveal of its new baseball team name, to be chosen from the finalists: Hambones, Hush Puppies, Flatheads, Flying Squirrels, Rhinos and Rock Hoppers. And so, we end on no joke. Yes, these are the real finalists.
