Behind the Photo: Bike Sculpture

Posted By on Fri, Feb 26, 2016 at 2:20 PM

About an hour before sunset I was in Lakeside on assignment. I noticed this bike sculpture and how the colors of the bikes were about the same colors as the sky.

Everything about the scene read as monochromatic. The spare, even light, coupled with the abstraction created by the bike wheels and spokes, made for a unique composition.

Photographed with a Nikon D750, 24-70mm lens, 1/4000 sec, F4, ISO 5000.

Behind the Photo: Winter Light

Posted By on Fri, Feb 12, 2016 at 2:20 PM

There is something about the quality of winter light that dazzles unlike other seasons.

When slicing low on the horizon, the hues of light in this season seem deeper and more vibrant. The bare branches of trees in winter add a spare element that foliage hides, giving the silhouetting winter light transparency and severity.

Behind the Photo: McAuliffe Moment

Posted By on Mon, Feb 8, 2016 at 2:40 PM

Gov. Terry McAuliffe never misses an opportunity to sing the praises of Virginia.

He said “Hey, AvePoint didn’t decide to expand in New Jersey, did they? No, they decided to relocate to the best place in the country to do business. Virginia!”

When Tom Lin got up to address the crowd he looked at the governor and said “I’m from New Jersey.” The governor then feigned shock and shared a big laugh with Lin.
