PICK: Brian Jones Album Release Party for “Kaleidoscopic Haze” at Art Space - Wednesday, May 18

The Noah Campbell Trio will play opening set at 8 p.m.

The Stratford Hills Shopping Center is more than a stone’s throw from the downtown arts district. But it’s easy to get to, parking is plentiful, and Wednesday night’s performances from Brian Jones’ guitar trio and saxophonist Noah Campbell are ample incentives.

Drummer Brian Jones is one of the reasons there is a vital music scene in Richmond.

Since playing with almost famous Agents of Good Roots, he has been at the center of a recombinant cluster of bands incorporating all of the top players in the area.

This event celebrates the latest of Jones’ over two dozen releases: “Kaleidoscopic Haze” features longtime collaborator, guitarist/composer/arranger Trey Pollard –fresh off the debut of his concerto with the Richmond Symphony—and bassist Adam Hopkins, whose fresh take on jazz classics and Brooklyn connections keep the area plugged into both jazz history and continuing innovation.

The music starts at 8 p.m. with an opening set from musical polymath Noah Campbell, who just graduated from Dartmouth and is headed to Brown in the fall to pursue a doctorate in political theory, and his trio featuring Sean Yeskoo on bass, and Kevin Gaines on drums.

Admission is $20 and comes with a download card for the Jones album. Doors at 7:30 p.m.
