UPDATE: The Deep Run Roadhouse is now open at 309 N. Laurel St. Let the smokiness begin!

Deep Run Roadhouse will open its second location next month, Richmond BizSense reports. The spot at at 309 N. Laurel St. most recently housed Moo Burgers, and before that, Nile Ethiopian Cuisine — and if your memory goes even further back then that, Hole in the Wall, owned by Eric Bopst and Style contributor Chris Bopst.

11-24-2015 3:30 p.m.: Deep Run owner Paul Hubbard, who was also one of the founders of Alamo BBQ in Church Hill, says, “The menu down there will be a little more limited. It’s more of a VCU-friendly lunch spot,” according to BizSense.

Hubbard isn’t worried about the restaurants that have come and gone in the same spot. Or that Bigg’s BBQ wasn’t able to make a go of it two blocks away on Grace Street.

“There’s no barbecue in the VCU area,” he says. “I feel like we’ve made successful restaurants work in challenging locations in the past.”
