The chairman and chief executive of the Carpenter Co. may be a bit of a recluse, but Stanley Pauley spreads the wealth. Sources say the money flows through his wife, Dorothy, who helped deliver $3 million to CenterStage. In 2008 the family's foundation doled out $4.68 million to various arts organizations, the Medical College of Virginia foundation and the Virginia Commonwealth University Engineering School, among others. The company foundation, fueled by profits from the privately owned billion-dollar foam and cushion maker, gave out another $2 million plus in 2008. As spigots go, the Pauleys are rainmakers.
