43rd Street Arts Festival

Saturday, Sept. 25

Like any other city in America, Richmond's not immune to homeless people who spend their days desperately hoping for some charitable offer of food, money or shelter. Undoubtedly disheartened, when the need for survival overcomes pride, these individuals become regular fixtures on high-traffic street corners and sidewalks, a none-too-subtle reminder of humanity. The 43rd Street Festival of the Arts benefits Freedom House, which provides services for the homeless. Showcasing more than 75 of the region's creatively inclined artists and craftsmen, as well as food, children's activities and musical entertainment from the likes of Susan Greenbaum, Blue Line Highway and OminOtag, the event takes place from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at 43rd Street and Forest Hill Avenue.
