Chairman of Media General
Scion of the Bryan newspaper family, J. Stewart Bryan has seen his fortunes diminish. Still chairman of Media General, the semiretired Bryan and his family control 84.9 percent of the B shares of the company, which owns The Richmond Times-Dispatch. His 569,670 A shares have plummeted from about $39 million a few years ago to a mere $4 million or so at today's prices of about $9 a share. Still, that's better than a year ago, when shares were a buck and change.
